The large number of debilitating and chronic conditions has caused many states to legalize marijuana for medical use, although it is still illegal at the federal level. In participating states, patients qualify for medical marijuana if they are diagnosed with a condition that meets the criteria for their state's conditions for the use of medical marijuana.
